Just nine months ago, Sehsüchte celebrated its 50th anniversary in unusual summery fashion, with audiences and film teams igniting our campus with all the cinephile life we had dearly missed. Though still limited by the pandemic, we’re aiming to bring back even more of those vital connections…

Im kleinen Zeitfenster der pandemischen Sommerpause findet die bisher sommerlichste Ausgabe der Sehsüchte statt. Das Jubiläum ist geprägt von Masken, QR-Codes und vielen Aktionen die vor der Filmuniversität stattfinden.

Pandemiebedingt muss das Festival im September stattfinden. Erstmals werden Filme nicht nur im Kino sondern auch im Internet gezeigt und gesehen.

Organising a festival for student films always means to leave usual paths, step into unknown territory and open new approaches. At the 48th International Student Film Festival Sehsüchte we want to create a space for discovering art, culture and innovative narratives as much as new encounters…

Sehsüchte had it's focus on METAMORPHOSIS in 2018. Whether short or long, a documentary or fictional film, music video or genre specific - the films showed their individual change processes and impulses which we discussed with our guests from all over the world.

Das Sehsüchte-Programm 2017 bietet Nachwuchsfilmemacher*innen aus insgesamt 32 Ländern eine Plattform, ihre Filme einem verdienten Publikum zu präsentieren. Jedes filmische Werk, ob fiktional oder dokumentarisch, kurz oder lang, entwickelt dabei seine individuelle Herangehensweise, die Erzählungen und Perspektiven erlebbar macht. Die diesjährigen Sehsüchte-Filme gewähren einen sehr persönlichen Einblick in Themen wie Migration, Einsamkeit, Tod, Identität, Liebe, Familie und Beziehungen. Ein Abbild des Lebens.

The 2016 program was international, varied, colorful and - true to the motto S.P.A.C.E. - galactically good! Due to the first-time possibility of online submission, there were about 3500 films, from which 114 were selected for the festival. Among them, for the first time, exceptional genre films were shown in the new section 'Best Genre Film'. In the Writing Addictions program, 5 screenplays and 5 exposés were represented.

Once again Sehsüchte impressed with its international and versatile festival programme. From over 1000 submissions, 100 films from 28 countries as well as five scripts and exposés were chosen and presented to the audience. Many national and international filmmakers came to Potsdam Babelsberg to present their films in person.
